The fierce Alpine Cowboys (18-13) team continued to dominate as they swept the series against the Garden City Wind (8-23) in an 8-3 victory.

Dylin Brooks singled up the middle in the third and scored on Shea Bell’s single into left for the first Garden City run. Their next run did not come until the sixth. Rodney Polonia started the inning with a triple and was able to score as Albert Gonzalez grounded out to the first baseman.

The third and final run for the Wind came in the eighth as Polonia touched home for the second time of the night. He reached on an error by the shortstop, stole second and came around to score on Gonzalez’s single up the middle.

Taylor Simpson started the game on the mound for Garden City. He struck out the first batter he faced, but then struggled with placement, walking three batters. One runner scored after a single followed by another run after a bases loaded walk.

Quickly taking over on the mound was Larry Rodriguez. He struck out his first batter to end a tough first inning. Rodriguez’s outing was over after 3.1 innings. He gave up four runs--one unearned--and four hits.

Chip White stepped on the mound in the fifth. Despite allowing two runs--one unearned--in his first inning at work, he threw three productive innings to follow, keeping the Cowboys from producing more runs. He allowed just four hits and two walks with two strikeouts.

Closing the game, Ryan Blinderman kept the Cowboys to their eight runs, giving up just one hit and two walks.

Taylor Simpson (0-1) picked up his first loss of the season while Mike Straub (1-1) picked up his first win.

The Wind will spend a week on the road with games against the Las Vegas Train Robbers, Las Cruces Vaqueros, White Sands Pupfish and Roswell Invaders.

On Monday 29th, Gabe Cook, Cody Ellis and Polonia will play for the All-Star game in Las Vegas, N.M. before returning to Garden City for a six-game series against Las Vegas.
